"When families have the resources they need to meet their basic needs and to achieve the dreams and goals they have for their future, they can live a healthy, dignified life."

So says Miguelantana, CEO of the Weingart Foundation, one of a number of California philanthropists who have donated $10 million to the state's first-of-its-kind guaranteed income pilot program, which will provide $600 to $1,200 a month to more than 1,800 low-income Californians for up to 18 months, the Los Angeles Times reports.

"When families have the resources they need to meet their basic needs and to achieve the dreams and goals they have for their future, they can live a healthy, dignified life," says Asma Day, program manager of economic security and mobility at the Blue Shield of California Foundation, one of several charities that have donated $10 million to the state's Guaranteed Income Pooled Fund, per a press release.

"We are proud to join our foundation peers to invest in this opportunity and to amplify the collective impact of philanthropic resources on these critical pilot programs," says Manuel Santamaria, VP of community action at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, one of the charities that has donated $10 million.
